Crochet: Orla Breslin has had an eclectic textile career: weaver, knitwear, stage/film production, and more. She exhibits, teaches, and talks a lot about textiles, but an awful lot about crochet. A proud member textile groups such as The Cork Textiles Network, and The Crochet Liberation Front, she is also very active in promoting Craftivism, using craft, namely textiles, as a tool to promote ideas of community, environment and sustainability. In this workshop, we will use Eco/Fair-trade cotton yarn to stitch simple square shapes, practise basic stitches, and make eco-reusable dishcloths. This workshop is suitable for beginners, or for those wanting to refresh their skills.

Felting: Una Ní Shé is a visual artist who also teaches in community settings. Her work has two strands - studies of bones that become large abstract drawings and felts, and studies of musicians as they rehearse and play together. In the Lámhdhéanta felt workshop we will be making exotic felt flowers that can be used as table decorations. Secondly, we will make lacy open structure fabrics that can be used as table centres and pot-stands. The techniques are not complicated, but do make plenty of room for experimentation and fun.

Patchwork: Nikki Foley is a textile artist living in Kerry. She has taught a range of textile crafts, including patchwork and quilting, for over ten years. Her work has been featured in a number of books and she is a regular contributor to some of the quilting magazines, including Irish Quilting (www.irishquilting.ie). Over the years, she has exhibited her work all over the world, and she now operates The Sewing Shed, selling textile supplies and beautiful cotton fabrics. In Lámhdhéanta, we will make a kitchen-inspired wall quilt.
